Install Kali Linux in a Virtual Machine

Install Kali Linux in Virtual machine using VMware or Virtualbox

After this blog post you’re able to run the latest version of Kali Linux in a Virtual machine. If you don’t have any software to run Virtual machines or if you’re not familiar with the benefits of virtualization, I would recommend you to read this page.

Download the image

Luckily for us, the Kali Linux community has generated several Kali Linux VMware and VirtualBox images which they share for free. The images are maintained on a “best effort” basis and by this they do not provide any technical support.

Kali Linux build a 32bit version as well as the 64bit version for both Vmware and VirtualBox, so we can choose which we like the most. Notice the different tab’s in the top of the table, the “Image Name” column is where you can download the file. There is one more option is to download it, which is via Torrents.

After downloading the file directly or via torrents the VirtualBox images you’ll get a .OVA file. If you’re downloading a image or VMware the file is zipped int.

Simply go to you download folder and open the OVA file by double clicking it. It should now link to your virtualization software. Another way to do this, is to open your virtualization software, go to the File tab >  Open and than browse towards the downloaded OVA file.

Finishing touch

Now you’re good to go, if they ask if would like to take ownership of you just copied it? It doesn’t really matter just choose one.
